Our countdown to Christmas continues with five parcels to wow even the most Cars-obsessed four-year-old. We enlisted the expertise of Eyana Carballo, mom-of-two and owner of Crown Heights one-stop kids store Stork. The Franklin Avenue space is just a babe itself (it opened in 2011) but is already a firm local favorite thanks to a stellar mix of quirky clothes for the 0-6 set – think graphic NUNUNU separates and merino onesies from Noch – plus big-ticket stroller/high chair/bunting kit from the likes of Stokke and 7am Enfant, and a ton of creatively minded toys.
The perfect gift for little (green) fingers
Magnifying glass, binoculars, bug checklist, sketch book, colored pencils, LED headlamp: The Seedling The Outdoor Explorer Kit ($50) has all the tiny tools a four-year-old adventurer needs.
The best thing on three wheels
The Maxi Kick Scooter ($134) is a staple riding toy in our home! Each is made from reinforced fiberglass so they’re super lightweight and durable. You’ll also get years of wear from them; the maxi carries twice the weight limit of the mini, at 120 lbs.
The child-friendly mani
Girls can’t get enough of Piggy Paint polishes ($10 each) which are natural, non-toxic, hypoallergenic and dry in 60 seconds. Pick from shades like Radioactive (it glows in the dark!), Glass Slippers (a sparkly top coat) and Solar Power; a zingy neon yellow. We also sell sheets of their nail decals from $10.
The winter must-have
With snow on the way, nothing beats a weekend trip to the slopes in a Stiga sled (prices start at $10). We have three versions that are perfect for this age group.
The one that never goes out of fashion
A guaranteed hit. I’ve yet to see a child who isn’t wowed the first time they play with a Ridley’s House of Novelty’s Slinky ($10).
